Objective Number:
Organization: ASU
Location: Sequoia
Type: Observation and needs assessment
Name Meeting: SPDG Project
Attendance: 3
Audience: Statewide
Date: 08-28-2008
Description:
Summary: Dr. Cocchiarella and Shana Hornstein was taken and introduced to teachers and paraprofessionals in the following settings – elementary education, secondary education and special education self-contained classrooms. Teachers employed at Sequoia Charter Schools are both certified and emergency certified. Those that are emergency certified are being encouraged to become fully certified through financial assistance by the district. Mary indicated that new special education teachers are in need of support in understanding the concept of IEPs driving the curriculum. Special education teachers are in need of support in the area of Transition as well but for now but she feels understanding how to connect the curriculum to an IEP is a priority.

Outcome:
Sequoia special education staff has been informed of the grant and the intent/purpose of
funds. Mary has communicated to Sequoia staff that individuals from ASU will be visiting to help develop and implement the components of SPDG and because of this copies were made of Dr. Cocchiarella’s ASU ID card and Shana’s fingerprint card. They are now on file. Dr. Cocchiarella still needs to provide a copy of her fingerprint card and Shana of her ASU ID card.
