Description:
Raising Special Kids provided professional development to 50 pre-service teachers emphasizing the important role families play in educating their children. Panel members shared their perspective as a parent of a child with special needs and successful tools for parent/professional collaborations. 90% of pre-service teachers reported that they are better able to work effectively with parents and better informed on how to make decisions regarding students. On a whole they rated a workshop as a five (5 being the best). Feedback included comments such as: As a result of this workshop I "learned that
not only do children learn from (others), but (others) learn from them", "will make accommodations and modifications to a child's individual needs", "will communicate with families and have high expectations for students."
