Description:
Raising Special Kids provided professional development to 23 pre-service teachers emphasizing the important role families play in educating their children. Panel members shared their perspective as a parent of a child with special needs and successful tools for parent/professional collaborations. 99% of pre-service teachers reported that they are better able to collaborate with parents in a positive manner, and better informed on how to make decisions regarding students. On a whole they rated a workshop as a
five (5 being the best). Feedback included comments such as: As a result of this workshop I "learned to
involve parents with all decision", "will tell parents positive feedback as well (as negative feedback)\", and  "will ask more questions rather than jumping to conclusions."
