Description:
A Group Data Meeting (GDM) was held to analyze the results of DIBELS testing and to make
plans for possible intervention. Those who attended included the school
psychologist, school counselor, the ELL SIOP coach, two intervention teachers, the four
first grade teachers, one student teacher, and the primary special education teacher.
Joel Axler, school psychologist, reviewed the goals and rationale of the GDM and briefly
discussed data driven decision making and universal screening. Results of the DIBELS testing
showed that 73% of the grade level tested at benchmark level, 22% at strategic level, and 5%
at intensive level. Based on those results, the team set a goal of 80% of the students scoring
at benchmark level at the next DIBELS testing in January. Tier 1 strategies include the
use of Harcourt Trophies materials in all classrooms with fidelity and differentiated
instruction within each first grade classroom. In addition, the first grade teachers plan to
build on HFW skills to better prepare students for the ORF (Oral Reading Fluency)
section of DIBELS. For Tier 2, 13 students were identified as in need of intervention. The
teachers will work with all students in flexible groups for 30 minutes, four times a week, prior to
beginning the Headsprouts program on Oct. 6th. Jolly Phonics will be used in one group,
Harcourt Intervention will be used in another, and fluency practice will be
emphasized in another. Attendance will be tracked to ensure that students placed in Headsprouts
are in school every day. Students in intervention (Headsprouts) will be progress monitored
every other week. Parents will be notified of classroom and grade level goals during
parent/teacher conferences to be held the week of Sept. 15th. Progress toward goals will
be discussed at the November conferences. |
