Type: Group Data Meeting
Name Meeting: Second Grade GDM
Attendance: Nine
Audience: Group Teacher
Date: 09/12/08 |
Description:
The second grade teachers in addition to the school psychologist, intervention teacher, SEI
teacher and school counselor met to analyze results from recent DIBELS
testing and to discuss plans for possible intervention. The psychologist opened the
meeting with GDM expectations and rationale. He emphasized the importance of data driven
decision making and goal setting based on data. DIBELS analysis showed that 43% of the
grade level scored at benchmark level, 32% scored at strategic level, and 25% at intensive
level. A total number of 122 students were assessed, including students in the newly
developed Structured English Immersion class. In that class, 0% of the students were at
benchmark, 50% were at strategic, and 50% were at intensive. Since the SEI class includes four
hours of daily language development, the team decided that those students would remain in
their own class for intervention (Tier 2) while the students in the other classes at the
intensive level would participate in intervention groups. In one second grade class, 60%
of the students are at benchmark, 40% is at strategic, and 0% is at intensive. In the
other second grade class, 52% of the students are at benchmark, 30% are at strategic, and 17%
at intensive. It was decided that as a grade level, the goal for the next DIBELS assessment
will be for 60%
of the students to be at benchmark. The teachers would also like to see
half of all the students at the strategic level (22) progress to the benchmark level. To
achieve those goals, students will be divided into flexible groups with instruction
emphasized in phonics, fluency, and vocabulary. Harcourt Intervention materials will be used as
well as Read Naturally and Houghton Mifflin Leveled Readers. Intervention groups will
meet 3-4 times a week, for 30 minutes each time. Students in intervention will be progress
monitored twice monthly and the next GDM for this grade level will be held in November. |
