Description:
After reviewing data from the test, Get It, Got It, Go, teachers decided that a focus area for intervention would be vocabulary. On
the test it is called, picture naming. These focused interventions are provided on a daily basis
and reflect best practices that support vocabulary development in all
children.
Some of the vocabulary interventions include sorting into groups a variety
of pictures by their function, talking about that function in detail and
acting it out if appropriate, with props and gestures to support meaning.
Vocabulary words from story themes or ongoing classroom activities are the
vocabulary concepts that are targeted for focus. Teachers use varied
vocabulary and draw attention to targeted words with time to extend and
deepen a topic over multiple turns and opportunities.
Teachers also make the parents aware of the vocabulary words and suggest
strategies to families that are used in the classroom that support vocabulary
development. Specific books are suggested that may also contain the
selected vocabulary and concepts as possible books to be read at home.
The next testing cycle of, Get It, Got It , Go will be administered in
December to all the 4 year old students. This data will be compared with
the data that was collected in our first cycle of testing which was done at the
start of the school year. Data will then determine our next targeted
instruction. |
